Thousands of cars will soon be speeding past the building every day on their way to the station.
Planners in China wanted the apartment block demolished so they could build an access road to a new railway station.
But two families in the block in Wenling, Zhejiang province decided they wanted to stay put so officials simply built the four lane highway round the building.
But now the enterprising families who are planning to stay there say they could open up a store for business.
Resident Zhang Ling, 46, said: “They didn’t offer us enough compensation to leave so we’re staying.
“It could be a good opportunity for us. We could open up a drive through shop on the ground floor.”
