The Sheba Post is proud to annouce that it is a sponsor and Media partner for the Ethiopian New Year as organized by The Ethiopian African 2000 Mellenium Group. For the estimated 200,000 Ethiopian Americans in the Washington, D.C. area, September 12, 2007 marked the beginning of the year 2000 according to the ancient Ethiopian Calendar. On that day, the Ethiopian African Millennium Group, with the help of sponsors such as Starbucks Coffee Company as well as partners such as the African-American Civil War Museum and the United States Congress, produced a massive event that brought over 30,000 people to the grounds of the Washington Monument for a memorable evening.

This historical celebration and the formation of Ethiopian African Millennium Group (EAMG) was the dream of one of the youth leaders in the Washington, D.C. area named Anteneh Demelash of Addis Zemen LLC. His early supporters and co-organizers were Ellias Fullmore, Alemayehu Haile, Asratie Teferra, Mulugeta Tsegaye, Seaty Yosef and James Williams. The celebrations consisted of a cultural festival, food and special guest speakers including Members of the United States Congress and several high-ranking African dignitaries, diplomats, renowned historians and cultural icons. By the most conservative estimates, this was the largest single Ethiopian New Year celebration held out side of Africa and the largest event of its kind in American history.
